The Long Room Hub
The Long Room Hub is a Trinity College Dublin Research Institute serving the arts, humanities and discursive social sciences. Hosted jointly by the Trinity Library and academic Schools, the Hub has set for itself an ambitious mission to:
Support scholarship and collections in the Arts, Humanities and discursive Social Sciences by facilitating access to resources; and to ensure the resulting research outcomes are communicated as widely as possible to scholars, students and society.
In practical terms, the Hub will enable Trinity scholars and their collaborators in this country and abroad to exploit the rich holdings of the Library and to fulfil their research potential. The Hub will provide access to the following vital resources:
- research tools – such as catalogues and digital editions
- enhanced and relevant research collections
- funding opportunities for individual and collective projects
- local and international networks
- project and dissemination planning
- space to work individually and collaboratively
- technical advice and good practice for electronic or digitisation projects
- opportunities for public engagement with research
In 2007, the Long Room Hub became a member of the Humanities Serving Irish Society consortium, and on this basis was awarded €10.8 million under the Irish government’s Programme for Research in Third-Level Institutions (PRTLI). The Hub’s research and outreach activities are also attracting significant contributions from philanthropic and other sources. We are encouraged by these endorsements, which validate our vision of the Arts and Humanities’ contribution to the education and development of the individual, to culture and heritage but also to politics, business, science and all aspects of human understanding. We take seriously the responsibility of creating the intellectual infrastructure for future generations, and welcome your feedback as we create the programmes and networks that will help us contribute to this aim.
